Bankside Press Ltd ("the company") is a small family-owned business based in London.
The company uses and retains information for business and professional purposes in line with UK data protection regulations. Our Companies House registration number is 10114024 and we are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller under reference ZA200325.
Our principal products are the London SE1 community website and the SE16.com community website, and their associated email newsletters.
The company respects the privacy of users of our products and services.
The sets of data we hold
These are the main collections of personal data that we hold:
- Lists of email addresses of people who have opted in to our email newsletters (SE1 Direct, SE1 Monthly, SE1 Daily and SE16.com). It has been our longstanding policy to only collect the minimum information required to supply the requested newsletters (no names or demographic information). All our lists have been collected on an opt-in basis with the consent of the recipient.
- The registration database for the discussion forum on the SE1 website. This data includes usernames and email addresses, and in some cases (where supplied by the user) real names. This data has been collected on an opt-in basis with the consent of the user.
- The list of subscribers for the membership scheme that funds the SE1 website. This includes names, addresses and email addresses. Financial information is not visible to us but is held by our payment processors. We hold this data as a matter of contractual necessity.
Third-party data processors
We rely on a number of third-party providers in order to offer our services to you.
- We show you advertisements via the Google Adsense and DFP services. Google has published a statement about how it handles your data.
- Google Analytics generates statistical and other information by using cookies on users' computers. This information helps us to understand how people are using the websites that we publish. Further details are available from Google.
- Mailchimp is the service we use to send our email newsletters.
- We use Paypal to handle payments for classified advertisements, membership subscriptions and one-off contributions. See privacy policy.
- We use GoCardless to handle some payments relating to our subscription scheme and one-off contributions. Read about GoCardless and GDPR.
- We use Stripe to handle some online card payments.
- We use Docmail to send postal mailings.
- We use iZettle to handle payments when we are selling items (eg calendars) at community events.
- Payments made to Bankside Press by individuals and businesses are recorded on Xero, our cloud accounting software. Xero has published details of its compliance with GDPR.
Social media
We publish content on a number of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Our - and your - activities on those services are governed by the policies of the relevant companies.
Personal information
Bankside Press will only use your personal information to:
- provide specifically requested information (ie answer your emails or contact you when necessary),
- send you communications (newsletters) that you have asked to receive, and
- carry out our legitimate business that may include consultancy and advisory services, education, training and preparing information with a view to publication.
Please inform us if you do not wish to receive any of our communications.
An 'unsubscribe' link appears at the bottom of every email newsletter we send.
Consent
Consent is sought wherever and whenever possible and required. However, some information may be held for journalistic purposes where consent is not required.
